travel to Greece on a budget

Greece was a destination on my bucket list for a long time, but planning a trip seemed so daunting due to the price. However, after extensive research, I found the best ways to travel to Greece on a budget.

1. Book Everything Early

Flights, airbnb’s, hotels, excursions, etc. fill up quickly and only get more expensive the longer you wait, so book them early! I did my research about 9 months prior to my trip and booked flights and accommodations about 6 months in advance.

2. Location Affects Price

If you want to stay in Oia during your trip to Santorini, you are most likely going to have to pay the price. However, if you stay right outside of Oia, you can still walk to the sites, but spend much less per night. Similarly, with choosing the islands you would like to visit, keep in mind that the more popular an island is, the more expensive it will be. You can find less touristy islands and locations that have the same beauty and charm as the more popular ones.

3. Food

On my trip, we ate out only 1-2 times per day and saved money by buying groceries and snacks. Not only does this save you money, but it is also a great way to try native foods! I loved trying different protein bars and fruits from the grocery stores.

4. Spend More Time in Each Place

Instead of traveling to six islands in two weeks, try to plan your trip to spend a longer amount of time on three islands. This will cut down not only the travel time, but the cost to get from one place to another.
